Guest Room Retreat
I like to make sure my house guests have a comfortable place to stay. If you have the space to make an extra sleeping room for guests, then lets make it great! Think about how you feel when you are somebody else's guest, whether it be a friend or family member. Do you feel welcome? Do you feel like you have control over your comfort or privacy? Do you feel like you've been put into whatever space they can accommodate you or have they made a designated space for you? I think about all of these elements when accommodating my guests. Sometimes you don't have an extra room for someone, sometimes you just don't have the space and that's ok, you have a big heart to accommodate someone as best as you can. Let's talk about how we can accommodate a guest with the extra space in your home and without.
Since I have an extra room to spare, we can definitely make this a decorative and well planned space for guests. Starting with a pop of color and some fun wood wall panels, we can already add some unique interest to the room. Adding some decorative mirrors adds to the design, but also function to make the space feel bigger and reflect more light since this room does not get a lot of direct sunlight in the day. The ceiling height is low, about 8 feet and the traditional style ceiling fan made it feel lower, so the fan was removed and replaced by a ceiling-hung smaller profile fan/light fixture. The furniture added is for our guest's use to put personal items and clothing away as needed. To balance out the wall opposite of the feature wall, I added a personal touch of colorful artwork.
Now for those that do not have an extra room to spare for your guests, like where your guests need to use a child's bedroom or the couch in the living room, we can make those spaces a little more comfortable by cleaning the area up from clothes or clutter. You can remove toys and clothing. You can add a privacy screen to use when they are sleeping on the couch. You can change the bedding on a child's bed to more "adult" linen and blankets to make it feel like their own for the time being. Making your guests feel welcome is key!
