Home for the Holidays?
Christmas 2020 will feel a little bit different this year for some. The normal family and friendly gatherings probably will be limited or not at all. The normal work related holiday events definitely will not happen, at least in person. Fortunately, decorating can still happen! decorating for the holidays can be therapeutic and put one's spirits up. You can decorate for your own family's enjoyment or even just for your own. I encourage all to have some fun with it, even if you have never done it before or you are not entertaining. This is probably the best time to experiment since there's no added pressure of traveling and having to entertain. You actually have time!
Decorating doesn't come easy for some, so definitely take to the internet for some ideas or give me a budget and I'll go shopping for you and decorate your space! Sometimes the simplest things have the biggest impact, so don't assume you have to spend a lot of money. Here's a few elements that you should think about while getting your decorating done:
1) Lights! Christmas lights are a must have. Not only do they have to be on a Christmas tree, but you can put them anywhere and they'd be a delight! White lights give a warm feel and almost sophisticated feeling, while colored lights are fun and festive.
2) Evergreen is a must somewhere, even if you don't have a Christmas tree, you can get a simple garland and drape it on a stair railing or a fireplace mantle, or even a curtain rod! You can hang a wreath in the house, or a few! Fake or real, it doesn't matter. That takes us back to plants and how we feel amongst them.
3) Fabric is very important in creating that cozy feeling. Think about wintery, or Christmas prints mixed with some solid complimentary colors. They can be accent pillows or throws on your sofa. They can be table runners or placemats on your table or towels in your bathroom.
4) Scents! Don't forget about that nose. It likes the smell of cinnamon, peppermint and the smell of a fresh Christmas tree. You can fill your home with wonderful holiday scents from candles. Gingerbread and sugar cookies come to mind.
5) The sound of bells and Christmas music also add to the feeling of Christmas. Maybe the sound of a toy train on a track doing its rounds.
So have some fun, that's what the holidays are all about after all!
