Lucent Recovery and Wellness Center

A new business in town, Lucent Recovery and Wellness, which focuses on the therapeutic treatment of those recovering from substance abuse, commissioned me to furnish and design their newly leased office space, by turning it into the ultimate wellness and therapy center. This project had a tight timeline, and it was my job to turn an empty space with wall to wall carpeting into the place the clients envisioned their business to be. Carpet was removed and replaced with hard surface flooring and fresh paint was included to brighten up the space. 2,643 square feet later, I specified furniture solutions for therapy and office spaces, resulting in the welcoming, flexible and minimalistic feel that the client was going for, while keeping it all within their desired budget.

The Before

We started with a drab office space. The space felt dark and tired. It's great that the client had an idea of what he wanted the space to look like. Execution is the hardest part for most, which is why I love what I do.

The Design Outlook

A 3D model of the space was created to convey the design direction. These visuals help bring an understanding of the space and how everything flows together. It is easier to make design changes during this stage of the process before specifying and purchasing anything. Even during the specifying and quoting stage of the process, changes can still occur to get everything just right and within budget.

Open Office

The main room was to function as the main public space as well as a large group therapy room. This room needed to feel welcoming and inviting. The clients envisioned different style chairs with throw pillows so that clients would feel "at home" and comfortable while opening themselves up during therapy sessions, small tables are light-weight for added flexibility and serve as a place to set drinks and other items. Ottomans in the center can be used as ancillary seating for clients needing to view the TV screen or for therapists to sit while running meeting sessions.

Small Seating Areas

A few smaller seating areas are also included in the open office area. These have matching chairs to signify a bit more formality and appear as different from the large group seating area. These serve as waiting areas for clients as well.

Small Group Rooms

Small group meeting rooms were set up similarly to the open office large group seating. Some alternate seating options were introduced as shown by the bean bag seats. These smaller rooms are more intimate settings for smaller groups of clients.

Private Offices

Private therapist's offices were not only made for working in, but for one-on-one sessions with clients. The seating areas in these offices were specified with comfort in mind and a "home-like" feel. Floor lamps allow for mood lighting so that the harsh office fluorescent lighting doesn't interfere with patient therapy.

Overall, the needs for furniture were exactly what the client envisioned. More magnificent art installations and office plants will be integrated at a later date.
